1. What is an onsite primary care clinic?

It is a full-service clinic, staffed by medical professionals to fulfill the needs of current employees, their families, and in some cases, retired employees. Its staff typically treats basic illnesses, aches, pains, colds and flu, as well as minor personal injuries. The clinic also treats chronic health issues, such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.

2. What’s the difference between a primary care clinic and an occupational care clinic?

A primary care clinic treats personal health issues. An occupational care clinic treats work-related injuries and illnesses. Either clinic can initiate treatments or make referrals to specialists.

3. Can minor surgical procedures be done in a PMR Onsite Clinic?

If there is a doctor at the PMR Onsite Clinic, the doctor can perform minor surgeries at his or her discretion.

4. What kind of clinic reports does PMR provide its clients?
To validate usage and savings, a PMR Onsite Clinic typically provides clinic activity and cost savings reports on a periodic basis, as requested by a client. These reports include clinic use, employee participation, treatments, and injury and illness severity, and savings.

5. How much space is needed for the PMR Onsite Clinic?

PMR designs the clinic according to the client’s size, number of employees, and types of services required. The design varies by client, but here are some “typical” sizes for different types of PMR Onsite clinics.

  • PMR Primary Care Clinic. This onsite clinic typically provides primary care services, along with wellness and case management services. The clinic is usually more than 1,000 square feet in size with two patient visit rooms, a waiting room, an all-purpose room, an office, and a reception area. It is generally open two to five-days a week, based on the client’s needs. The clinic is staffed by a physician-level professional and necessary support staff (for example, medical assistant or RN).
  • PMR Occupational Care Clinic. This onsite clinic typically provides occupational care services, along with drug and alcohol testing, and case management. The clinic usually consists of one to three rooms and a bathroom in a manufacturing or industrial facility. Shifts and days vary according to the client’s needs. The clinic is generally staffed by an occupational health specialist for a single shift.
  • PMR Construction Clinic. This clinic typically provides construction medical services, along with drug and alcohol testing. The clinic is often a trailer or private space with one or more rooms. It is typically open and available any time and any day, based on the client’s and the construction site’s needs. The clinic is generally staffed by an occupational health specialist.

6. How long does it take to set up a PMR Onsite Clinic?

The length of time varies according to the type of clinic, services provided, whether or not an existing building or space is already available, and the nature of the actual build-out.

On average, a Primary Care clinic can be up running in 90 days or less; an Occupational Care clinic in 30 days or less; and a Construction clinic in 14 days or less.

7. Does PMR do the actual clinic construction?

No, PMR is not a construction company. However, we can provide construction services through subcontractors. In general, most companies prefer to hire their own contractors.

Whether the PMR Onsite Clinic is built using our subcontractors or yours, a PMR project manager will be onsite every step of the way, from design, through construction, and inspection.

8. What kinds of companies can use PMR Onsite Clinics?

Companies of all sizes, types and industries are candidates for PMR Healthcare onsite clinics. We find that companies with at least 200 people benefit the most.

9. How does a PMR Onsite Clinic save a company money?

With a PMR Onsite Clinic, savings potentials include the following:

  • It is no longer necessary to file an insurance claim for each patient visit. This means a smaller clinic staff is required because there is no need for a billing, medical coding, collection, or insurance specialist staff.
  • Medical practitioners have more time to spend with each patient, which means a better chance of finding illnesses early and providing personalized, long-term solutions. This reduces catastrophic illness and its associated costs.
  • Employees do not have to leave the workplace to seek medical treatment, resulting in fewer lost work hours.
  • A prescription drug program through PMR saves money by dispensing prescriptions on site, and increasing bulk purchase, mail order prescriptions, and the use of generic drugs.
  • PMR clinic staff manages a patient’s case from start to finish by providing support, effective treatment, and outside provider follow-up, thereby saving costs.
  • Ancillary programs such as drug and alcohol screening can be provided onsite for substantial savings.

10. How does a PMR Onsite Clinic improve the quality of healthcare for employees?

PMR onsite clinics offer employees total access to their medical providers, allowing them to build valuable, long-term medical relationships with their doctors and medical staff. Additionally, PMR Healthcare acts as an advocate for the medical well-being of all patients, even with outside providers. Finally, employees receive their care more quickly and conveniently because the clinics are on site.

11. How does a PMR Onsite Clinic reduce costs for employees?

PMR onsite clinics have little or no patient co-payment charges.

12. How much does a PMR Onsite Clinic cost?

Costs vary by individual company needs, location, workforce, and program requirements.

13. How does PMR Healthcare calculate your potential savings?

PMR Healthcare performs an analysis of your previous year’s claims history. We can then qualify potential onsite clinic use vs. equivalent outside provider fees. Based on the analysis we can develop tailored programs to achieve additional savings on a client-by-client basis.

14. How can we afford to pay for a PMR Onsite Clinic on top of our current healthcare program?

A PMR Onsite Clinic is funded with existing money previously earmarked by the company for healthcare expenses. The funds are reallocated to the onsite clinic so the client receives higher quality medical services for lower cost.

15. When will we start to see savings?

A company with a PMR Onsite Clinic starts saving money from day one.

16. Will the PMR Onsite Clinic replace our existing program?

No, a PMR Onsite Clinic does not replace your current program. The PMR clinic supplements your existing program by allowing program participants to seek medical treatment at your facility, rather than offsite.
